B@Maritime Day 2014: "Autorità Portuale del Levante" leads Bari in Europe

The Port of Bari hosts the European Maritime Day: open port, debates, conferences, trade pavilions and a concert by Radiodervish  to  allow participation in the maritime economy. 


On 19th of May 2014 "Autorità Portuale del Levante" hosts the European Maritime Day in the Port of Bari as national event within “European Maritime day 2014”.

"Autorità Portuale del Levante" was selected by the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the European Commission in order to accommodate the national event. "Autorità Portuale del Levante" relies on the dialogue between ports, enterprises, citizens and schools to enhance new business and development opportunities through EU and international funding’ use.

"Autorità Portuale del Levante" with the event "B@Maritime Day 2014", which stands for "Bari on European Maritime Day," opens the door to the city with a day scheduled in five events culminating in a big party with a Mediterranean flavor carried to the rhythm of Radiodervish on Bourbon Pier, but only after having dealt with issues regarding labor, technological innovation, training, human resources and development of the territory.

The event starts in the morning, at the Maritime Station, with a meeting titled "Carrier Day in the Blue Economy”. Apulian high school students will be oriented towards job opportunities related to the maritime economy by the General Secretary of the Bari Port Authority, Mario Sommariva, the General Secretary of Chamber of Commerce, Angela Partipilo, the Administrator of Apulia Logistic Ltd, Massimo Tavolaro, the Managing Director of ISTOP Ltd, Giusepppe Totorizzo and the Administrator of the Morfini Travel Ltd, Antonio Morfini.

During the entire day, sea passengers , tourists, cruisers, families and curious can visit the " Blue Market " in the port area. Handcrafts and local products from all over Puglia will be shown in stands to introduce our territory and poly-functionality of the spaces inside of the port.

The Maritime Day will continue in the afternoon at the Cruise Terminal which will become an auditorium for the meeting-debate on: "The role of European Projects toward more sustainable transport network”. The beneficiaries of 11 projects funded by the European Community in the field of Maritime Transport and Economy on IPA CBC Adriatic funds, SEE, INTERREG Greece-Italy, Marco Polo II, Med, ENPI Med and Horizon 2020, will take turns in order to explain how work can also be created and transformed in the maritime industry, port and transport sectors through technologies and participation in EU calls for proposals with local businesses.

"Autorità Portuale del Levante” explains the president Francesco Mariani, “has chosen to invest in human resources and technology through community and international projects to improve working conditions for all, to increase traffic, to deal with the crisis."

The meeting-debate, involving speakers from all Europe, achieves the purpose of demonstrating how the virtuous use of European funds generate jobs, greater security and develop territories. The experiences of "Autorità Portuale del Levante" will be compared with those of Trieste, Luka Bar, Durres, Igoumenitsa, Patras, Brindisi, Constance, Burgas, Ancona, Varna, Cartagena, Tarragona, Corfu, Split, Dubrovnik, in order to coordinate the best practices and improve outcome planning from now to Horizon 2020 and the new programs of cross-border cooperation.

Street Food happening will take place at the end of the debate. It will be located from the entrance of the Port to the Bourbon Pier to give a taste of the products of "street food" and " food r": food & wine specialties from Bari Downtown and “Libera”, the association that works to cultivate the land confiscated from the mafia.

The Radiodervish concert will take place at 21.00, in the forecourt of the Cruise Terminal, thus closing the B@Maritime day2014.
